Jim Calhoun (born May 10, 1942) is a legendary former American college basketball coach. He's best known for his highly successful tenure at the University%20of%20Connecticut (UConn), where he coached from 1986 to 2012.
During his time at UConn, Calhoun built the program into a national powerhouse. He led the Huskies to four NCAA%20Men's%20Division%20I%20Basketball%20Tournament championships (1999, 2004, 2011). He is also known for his intense coaching style and his ability to develop players, many of whom went on to successful NBA careers. Prior to UConn, he coached at Northeastern%20University where he turned a struggling program into a consistent winner.
Calhoun retired from UConn in 2012. In 2018, he returned to coaching at Division%20III University of St. Joseph (Connecticut) where he started the program. He retired from St. Joseph in 2021. He is a member of the Naismith%20Memorial%20Basketball%20Hall%20of%20Fame, inducted in 2005. His career record is 920–397.
